This may sound a bit hollow but I would just like to give my genuine thanks to the hosts of this forum for entertaining this discussion and all the kind folks who took the time to provide very helpful information. There are a lot of posts elsewhere that I have fished through (and I do mean a lot!!) that really are incomplete and throw out red herrings.
After aquiring an old Dell, a Pio drive off eBay and creating dozens of Verbatim coasters I have finally cracked it for me. To confirm (using Maloushe's report format): Drive: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D flashed with default Pioneer 1.29 firmware (wasted a lot of time reading about custom stuff) Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x Software: Alcohol 120% Write speed: 4x Write method: DVD DAO View -> Options -> Recording -> Book Type DVD+R/DVD+RW disc as DVD-ROM while burning (ticked) View -> Options -> Recording -> Buffer set to 90Mb The biggest issue I had was with it locking at the layer switch, I thought I'd play it safe and always burn at the lowest setting (2.4x). This for me was wrong and seemingly, the cause of a lot coster creation!! I hope this helps someone, keep up the excellent work folks. Edit: Oh and if anyone wants any help (I'll do my best!) relating to this DVD drive PM me and I will try and help. I will post up any potentially useful responses I give into this thread. So I managed to make a working copy on a single layer DVD! Previously had a Pioneer 116D and flashed it to 116L with 1.09 firmware. The 1.09 firmware was modified with MCSE (be careful that this could brick your dvd writer) to accept bitsetting, rpc-1 (region free) and lower writing speed (2.4x).
I used a Verbatim DVD+R with Alcohol 120% and 2.4x with success. All the credits goes to and801, who helped with great directions! Thanks again! |

Ok, here is my problem:
I have a pioneer burner 116D. Previously used in a computer with Windows Vista 32 bit, and firmware 1.06 (original). I have used it to burn a succesfull copy several times. Mostly using ImgBurn. Now I changed computer to a i7 and I am unable to produce the same result. Windows 7 64 bit, I upgraded the firmware to 1.09 (original). I can see that the result is different too. The lines in the layer seem less dense (I can see lines) then before. Has anybody produced a working copy on windows 7 64 bit? or is there another issue going on? If more info is needed let me know. For the Snow Leopard people out there... Said files (cue/bin) from the location that shall not be named can be made to work in the following fashion:
Macbook Pro w/ Snow Leopard Roxio's Toast 10 (which can also be had from the location that shall not be named) Dual Layer Memorex DVD +R disc Open the copy disc tab, choose burn from image, locate the .bin file then click the burn button. I didn't have to worry about the DVD Book setting. Software updates twice in the car and the maps load afterward. Thanks for all the help and information. |
