Default UGGHHH! 2000 A6 Nav help

Ok so I have spent a couple hours looks for answers to no avail. Here is the deal. I want a newer Nav DVD because mine is 9 years old and doesn't recognize many of the roads in my area (Colorado). I have a 2000 A6 4.2L V8 with a nav system in between my speedometer and REM meter. Can anyone tell me if this is a MMI or an RNS-E? Do I have to get a new DVD from a dealer? I have searched many torrent sites and can only find European maps. Any help would be much appreciated!
-Thanks

Assuming it's a factory fit nav you're talking about, it's neither the RNS-E nor the MMI system (a 2000 model car pre-dates both of these systems).

It sounds like you've got a CD-ROM based nav system and are therefore after a new map disk (CD version).

I would recommend either speaking to your local dealer or contacting Navteq who might be able to point you in the right direction.

Ok, so it's a CD-ROM based Nav system? I am from the internetz, but you mean it runs DVDs right?

No, a CD-ROM based nav system means that it runs CD-ROMs and not DVDs.

Hahah, I should have looked at the CD I put into my computer. I just assumed it was a DVD. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. Well it looks like I need to call a dealer to get some more info. Do you know by chance what the system is called? The newer models are MMI or RNS-E, what is mine called? Thanks for all your help!

Sounds to me like you've got the BNS system, but in any event the dealer should be able to tell you the part number for the updated map disk for your car (based on the VIN).

Since there is no separate map display and you only see instructions on the DIS, you definitely have a BNS 4 sat nav system.

These use Bosch DX map CDs, in the UK these can be bought online from Tele-Atlas with up-to-date (2010) maps, so I assume that 2010 map CDs are available from a US supplier?

n/america supplier is Navteq. Here is a link to the lastest maps for a BNS4. Be aware that the latest update was released in 2003.

That's rubbish - as said in Europe we can get 2010 map CDs for BNS4.
