Default Random BlueTooth Questions

Hello there, I am about to install a converted RNS-E from EU to US and also want to install a bluetooth adapter at the same time. The questions I have are:

- in the tutorials for installation of bluetooth I've seen here, the photos show a white cubed mic which does not look anything like the round tipped mike found here Audi Navigation RNS-E System plug & play package, cables, accessories and service - Bluetooth :: Audi :: FISCON - Audi RNS-E Bluetooth kit (PRO)
Is this alright for fitting it in the overhead OEM compartment?

- Also, the bluetooth module found in the link above does not look like this supposed OEM bluetooth module found on ebay here AUDI MMI A4 A6 A8 Q5 Q7 BLUETOOTH on eBay.ca (item 120446177682 end time 08-Aug-09 13:15:48 EDT)
Which one should I get? Is there any difference between the two?

- I read somewhere that the EU BT module will have a Brit accent and might not recognize verbal commands (spoken in NA accent). Can it be changed to NA English?

- In this post (Bluetooth install, Mic Question), Dave explains that the mic should not be connected to the RNS-E unit unless planning to add SDS. What is SDS?

- Here are the specs of my car, please let me know how much functionality I can have out of both RNS-E and BT module based on what I have (if it's not too much to ask...)

2006 A4
MFSW
Sub GPS Antenna
No Bose

Thanks for the help.

Luis

The rectangular mic is the Audi OEM one which fits well into the overhaed light.

The round mic is the one you have to use with the FISCON unit, and you have to make your own arrangements to fit it in the overhead light.

The MMI Bluetooth module like in that link will NOT work with the RNS-E. You MUST get an 8P0 prefix module for it to work.

No, users cannot update or reflash the Bluetooth module. Hence why we alweays recommend you buy the newest module you can find for your region.

SDS is not available with US software so it's not relevant to you, but for information it's extended voice commands for not only the phone functions but also many of the rest of the functions of the RBS-E.

Get yourself an up-to-date US BT module and an RNS-E running US SW and you'll get the same functionality as if the RNS-E and BT had been factory fitted.

Default Awesome

That explains quite a bit. Thanks for the help.
So as I understand it FISCON is not OEM then (but aftermarket). Cool, I see. But I take it, it has OEM functionality and works as an Audi part, is this correct?

Default Think I got it

Ok, so I've been looking around and found this:

Bluetooth Handsfree - Retrofit - Audi A4 Bluetooth Only - $765.95 : Kufatec USA, Inc., The #1 Supplier of OEM Volkswagen & Audi Retrofit Harnesses in the World

Is this the OEM Bluetooth module?

Is that the equivalent to the FISCON Bluetooth Pro unit I linked above? Is this a better way to go than the FISCON unit?

Thanks for the help.

Luis

PS: from the pic, the mic wire does not seem long enough to reach from the upper panel to behind the globe box...

That's the OE unit, which IMHO is a better way to go than the FISCON unit.

That's because there is a wire from the mic position in the overhead light to a connector at the base of the A pillar, and the harness connects to there.

Ah ok so there is already a wire built into the car, all I have to do is connect the mic to one end and the harness to the other. Cool, then installing it should be easier than I thought.

Thanks for the help.

Default Any update?

Hey Version,

Any update on your BT retrofit? I'm in Vancouver and am looking to do the same on my 2006 S4 Avant.

Seems like a ton of work to buy either the OEM or Fiscon kits, install them, then properly code them with VAG-COM software.

I might just take the easy way out and go with a CIG-Blu aftermarket unit, which is more or less just plug and play. Obviously, it won't have any functionality with our steering wheel or nav systems.

Let me know how you make out.

Cheers.

If you call an install that takes less than an hour a "ton of work"...

Install is very easy...you need to have a current VCDS that support can bus or you will not be able to code the control module.

Sounds like I need to find someone in Vancouver with VCDS before I invest in any BT kit.

Anybody out there from Vancouver, BC willing and able to assist me?

Thks.
