Default Proper coding order with VAG-COM?

Thanks to PetrolDave and others, I have my Bluetooth (T) module hooked up in my (2007)B7 S4 with factory RNS-E and CDC. The bluetooth unit "works" insomuch as I can make calls, and use the hands free mic and speakers.

However, I have not successfully coded the unit to work yet. The person who has graciously shared his rosstech cable with me is fairly inexperienced so we've run into some small jams.

we've logged in via the VAGCOM cable, and can select the electronics 1 tab, from there we select button 77 which shows the bluetooth module as being there, but current coding as all 0000000.

we tried 0011427 and 0011827, in both cases we got "out of range" error 31s. (I assume since my car has the MFSW, and RNS-E, and is a B7 that I should be coding it for CAN, and therefore I should be using 00xx4xx)?

Upon further forum reading, it looks like I have a UK and US english conflict and therefore should have been using 0011477. My Bluetooth unit is a US unit, as is my RNS-E. I assume that the UK/US conflict is why we were getting an out of range error, but I'd like confirmation.

The real question has to do with the order in which we should code the thing.

Do we first select #77, then coding, then input the 011477, or do we first need to go to:
[Select]
[77 - Telephone]
[Adaptation - 10]
Channel 133
[Read]
0 = Bluetooth OFF
1 = Bluetooth ON
and turn the bluetooth "on"?

and do I need to go to the RNS-E unit entry and code this?

0xxx?xx: Telephone/Telematic
1 = Telephone not installed (Remote Feed Voltage for Microphone active)
2 = Base Plate (Temic - Remote Feed Voltage for Microphone inactive)
3 = Base Plate (Cullmann - Remote Feed Voltage for Microphone inactive)
4 = Base Plate (Nokia - Remote Feed Voltage for Microphone inactive)
5 = Telematic Europa (Remote Feed Voltage for Microphone inactive)
6 = Telematic US (Remote Feed Voltage for Microphone inactive)
7 = Base Plate diagnostic capable with Comfort Control
trying to put all my questions in the forum so that the next victim can find them all in one thread :)

For the US the option is 6 if I remember correctly, although it looks incorrect as for the EU we use 7, with US software it is 6.

The B7 is not using CAN diagnostics for infotainment devices, so K-line is correct for the phone interface. If you are running the Euro software, then you have a "Euro" unit as far as the coding is concerned, regardless of the hardware and what the device was originally from.

So, for the US phone interface in a B7, you have to code it for K-line diagnostics, US language, no SDS, leading 1 to get the high features. For the RNS-E you have to use 0xxx7xx is you are using the Euro software (with the phone interface coded 1xxxx) or 0xxx6xx if you are using the US software.

I can't seem to find a good answer as to why my unit uses K-line and not CAN (the rosstech site lumps cars from 2002+), but I am happy to trust the wisdom found here. I am top to bottom US equipment. So I don't have any funky cross breeding here - should be straightforward on the coding (though confused as to what "remote feed voltage for Microphone inactive" refers to).

Regardless, one thing that was not answered was the order in which things should be done.

1. Do I FIRST code the BT module, by going to electronics 1 tab, selecting 77 and then 'coding'? or;

2. Do I need to go to the electronics 1 tab, selection 77 then "adaptation" screen and turn BT on? or;

2. do I code the RNS-E first?

The answer is simple - you have a B7 A4.

On the B7 CAN diagnostics is used for the engine ECU (and possibly the other ECUs on the powertrain CAN), but the K-line(s) are used for ALL other controllers. On the B6 ALL controllers use the K-line(s) for diagnostics, and on the B8 ALL controllers use CAN for diagnostics.

AFAIK the order doesn't matter.

Here's what I do on a B6 or B7:

1) code the RNS-E, the instruments and the BT module - in any order.

2) clear the fault codes in the RNS-E and the BT module - in any order.

3) restart the RNS-E by pressing and holding RADIO and SETUP.

Always works for me.

Ok, got the RNS-E working with the BT module. Last step is the instruments section. For this I go to button 17 (instruments) and then Adaptation. I then choose channel 62. according to the ross wiki, here's my choices:

Channel 062: CAN-Databus Infotainment (Installation List)
+00001 = Radio (Optional)
+00002 = Telephone (Optional)
+00004 = Navigation (Optional)
+00008 = Telematics (Optional)
+00016 = Intrument Cluster (Standard - only coded with 2nd Component)
Since my car has only Radio, Telephone, Navigation (Does telematics refer to OnStar?) do I take an initial value of 16 and then add 1+2+4 = 7 to arrive at a final value of 23?

thank you Sir. I am trying to put all of this on one thread because I found that, as great as the idiot's guide is, there are a few of the coding issues where the instructions are simply "code it". Since there appears to be a wide range of VAGCOM experience, it might be helpful to have idiot proof instructions in one place.

I'd be happy to write it up as a separate sticky if that makes sense.

I have a question, I installed the Fiscon Bluetooth unit from Kufatec into my S5. I installed it and did the coding, it seems to be working but still when trying to access Telephone-77 it gets timed out. Is there any info you guys can share.. And the volume goes to mute whenever I get a text message. Is that normal? Thanks in advance.

Is the coding for a EU (M unit) when paired with a US version RNS-E the same as using a US/US setup?
