Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all your replies, I agree with Rlarsen that experimenting with the ABS module is not a good idea. I was hoping that somebody had already done this modification in a safe way (or a dealer had done it for them) but please don't start experimenting for me.

I am curious though if it's possible, maybe some companies will pick it up and offer it.

Best regards
Luc

Except in VERY rare cases (usually where there is a personal friendship), dealers will NOT assist in retrofits such as this - so you can forget about getting any help from them!

Best thing is to contact Ross-Tech and ask them to assist. They may ask you to supply e.g. module maps to help them. Self help is the best (and often the only) way.

Here is the answer from Ross Tech:

As the screen states, "Coding is normally done via SVM". SVM is VW/Audi's on-line Software Version Management System. The fact that only one bit is defined means that so far, we've only been able to figure out the meaning of that bit.

So it's a case of wait until someone can work out the coding.

Maybe worth seeing if you can find a B8 A4 owner with the TPMS who will tell you their long coding?

Now I have done some more research...

Enabled the TPMS MMI menu item via the "hidden menu" - but then it is just grayed out. Then I enabled the connection between ABS/ESP and MMI menu item, by setting:
Quote:
[03 - ABS Brakes]
[Security Access - 16]
[Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 1
Bit 3 to "1"
And now the MMI menu item is working

BUT - I'm getting this fault in "03 - ABS Brakes":
Quote:
03159 - TPMS Functionality in ESP
000 - -
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100000
Fault Priority: 4
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 206
Mileage: 22507 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2009.07.29
Time: 19:07:09

Freeze Frame:
Hex Value: 0x0000
Hex Value: 0x0782
Hex Value: 0x0034
Hex Value: 0x0D96
Hex Value: 0x00FF
I also got a fault in "17 - Instruments", but here I just had to set:
Quote:
[17 - Instruments]
[Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 4

Bit 0 - Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) installed (1 = active)
So it look like I'm still missing some setup/configuration

Thank you, excellent information and progress.

Three suggestions:

- If you could post your long-coding bits for 03 - ABS Brakes and someone with TPMS from factory in A4 B8 could post theirs for comparison? Ditto for adaptation channels, if possible.

- If someone could check ELSA/erWin electric diagrams for ABS Brakes module pin layout, to make sure no TPMS cable is listed there that could be physically missing.

- Is there a separate ESP module in need of coding too? Could the ABS Brakes want to talk to ESP about TPMS and that is why ABS Brakes is complaining? Judging from the A3 story linked on page 2 of this thread, probably not?

Here are my 03 - ABS Brakes informations:

Address 03: ABS Brakes (J104)
Part No SW: 8K0 907 379 AH
Component: ESP8 quattro H04 0230

Coding: 146500 (factory value)
- Byte 1 - 65 (0110 0101)

Coding: 146D00 (new value)
- Byte 1 - 6D (0110 1101)

Please note that the Long Coding is different for each ABS unit type - my unit has Part No ending with "AH" - if changing Byte 1 -> Bit 3 is the same on the other unit types - I don't know.

No, ESP is a software function that is part of the ABS controller.

I wonder if TPMS requires a different SW version in the ABS controller.

Might be worth looking in ETKA to see if the TPMS option calls for a different suffix version of the ABS module?

Anyone know what the option code is for TPMS on the B8?

Default How-to enable TPMS

The How-to is moved to the Audizine Wiki
