Default audi a3 newer headunit

Hi

i have and Audi A3 tdi sport, late 2003 model, it has a 6 disc double din head unit, i have purchased a double din audi syphony head unit out of a 2008 model car.

i want to fit the new unit to the car because i would prefer to play mp3 cd's and also have track listing.

can i fit this unit to my existing wiring and what would i need to get it to work, does my car have cambus? if i get it to work will the track listing work or is this driven off the newer cambus?

Any help really appreciated!!!

Cheers

Do you have the 8P series or a old version of A3? I have a audi a3 2003-12-04 and have rns-e whit canbus and everything is working ok.

One thing we know for sure is that the vast majority of Audi dealers will not help with ANY retrofits, even of Audi OE items.

It sounds like you have bought a Symphony II+ since you say it will play MP3s and display track information.

Your existing headunit sounds like a Symphony II, which means your car has the required Infotainment CAN bus. However, this retrofit will present you with 2 problems:

1) the Symphony II and the Symphony II+ have different connectors, so you will need a wiring adapter. A Symphony II to RNS-E adapter will be the closest match, but you will still have to move some wires. The papewr labels on the top of both units list the connections and will guide you what changes are needed.

2) the Symphony II and Symphony II+ use different antenna diversity systems and have different antenna connectors (2 x Fakra on the II+, Fakra plus "car" connector on the II). So you will need a kit (which you can get from e.g. Kufatec) to convert the antenna system and connectors.
